The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that our nation’s health care system will require more than 1.1 million new nurses through 2012. A recent AHA survey found that hospitals currently have 118,000 RN vacancies. The Health Resources and Services Administration projects that, absent aggressive intervention, the supply of RNs in our country will fall nearly 30 percent below the nation’s anticipated needs by the year 2020.
