In 2005 the Coalition, in partnership with the American Hospital Association, successfully lobbied to push through legislation exempting nurses and physical therapists from the immigrant visa quota. This legislation allowed about 20,000 additional nurses into the United States, which helped reduce this country's enormous nursing shortage.
